Truck Driver Resume With No Experience
This is the hardest version of the problem: no driving history, and possibly not even a full CDL yet. The page still has to be filled, and it still has to be honest.
The answer is that a resume with no driving experience is not a driving resume with gaps — it is a work-history resume aimed at a driving job. Reliability, physical capability, safety discipline and any equipment operation you have done are the content. The CDL or CLP is the qualifier that makes it relevant.

Who this is for
- People holding a CLP and applying to training programs

CDL details that matter here
- If you hold a CLP, say so and state which class you are testing for. Carriers with training programs recruit permit holders directly.
- If you have no permit yet, apply to company-sponsored programs — their resume expectations are about work history, not driving.
- A clean personal MVR is genuinely relevant here. If yours is clean and you are comfortable saying so, one line is fine.
- A current DOT medical card is a real qualification when you have few others.

- Forklift, pallet jack, loader, skid steer, tractor
- Non-CDL delivery vans and box trucks
- Any towing experience — trailers, equipment, boats — if genuinely substantial
- Do not list a personal pickup truck as equipment experience

Common mistakes
Padding with irrelevant detail
A short honest resume beats a long padded one. A recruiter can tell the difference immediately.
Claiming a CDL you do not hold
It is verified against state records before you ever get to orientation. If you have a permit, say permit.
Listing personal driving as professional experience
Driving a pickup, an RV or a personal trailer is not commercial experience and listing it as such reads as inexperience, not as an advantage.
Leaving your work history off because it "is not driving"
Employment consistency is the single strongest signal you can send with no driving record. Put all of it on.

Can I get a truck driving job with no experience?
Yes, through carrier training programs and local employers whose insurance permits new drivers. The resume needs to show reliability rather than driving history.
What if I do not have a CDL yet?
Apply to company-sponsored CDL programs. They pay for training in exchange for a commitment period, and they hire on work history and background rather than driving experience.
Does military driving experience count?
Yes, substantially. Many states have a military skills test waiver, and carriers actively recruit veterans with vehicle operation experience. List it explicitly with vehicle types.
Should I mention that I am a fast learner?
No. Every applicant says it and it carries no information. A specific example of learning something on a previous job does the work instead.
