Reefer Driver Resume

Refrigerated freight is unforgiving about two things: temperature and appointment times. A load that arrives warm gets rejected, and a grocery distribution center that gives you a 30-minute window does not extend it. Reefer recruiters hire for the discipline that prevents both.

So a reefer resume should show that you understand the equipment and the receiving environment: pre-cooling, set-point verification, continuous versus start-stop, temperature documentation, and how grocery and food-service DCs actually work.

Common mistakes

Not mentioning temperature documentation

Recording and defending temperatures is what protects the carrier from a rejected load. It is the core reefer skill and it belongs on the resume.

Ignoring appointment discipline

Grocery DCs are brutal about windows. Showing you understand and manage that is a hiring signal.

Leaving out driver-assist unloading

Some reefer accounts involve unloading. If you are willing to do it, say so — it widens the jobs you qualify for.

Frequently asked questions

Is reefer harder than dry van?

It has more that can go wrong: equipment failures, temperature claims and long detention at grocery DCs. Pay is often better as a result.

Do I need experience with a specific reefer unit brand?

No, but naming the brands you have run — Thermo King, Carrier — is a small credibility signal that costs you nothing.

What if I have only run dry van?

Many carriers cross-train. Emphasise appointment-based delivery, DC experience and documentation accuracy, which transfer directly.
