Box Truck Driver Resume

Box truck and straight truck work is delivery work. Stops, schedules, physical handling and customers. Some of it needs a CDL and some does not, but if you hold a Class B you should say so immediately — it separates you from the majority of applicants for the same job.

The most useful things on a box truck resume are stop counts, the equipment you handle at the stop, the documentation you complete and how you deal with customers.

Common mistakes

Not mentioning your CDL

Even when the job does not require one, holding a Class B tells an employer you are trained, tested and medically qualified. Say it.

Underselling the physical work

Stairs, appliances, residential access and heavy freight are the hard part of the job. Employers screen for people who can do it.

Not giving a stop count

It is the single most comparable number in delivery hiring. If you know yours, use it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a CDL to drive a box truck?

Only above 26,001 lbs GVWR, or if the load is placarded HazMat. Plenty of box truck jobs need no CDL, but holding one makes you a stronger candidate for all of them.

Does box truck experience count toward a tractor-trailer job?

It counts as commercial driving experience. Carriers will still want tractor-trailer time, but delivery discipline, DOT familiarity and a clean record all transfer.

How do I show I can handle residential delivery?

Say it directly: stairs, appliance dollies, tight streets, customer contact and scheduling. Residential work is harder to staff than commercial.
